Crater Cakes Friday, February 24

We will be making “crater cakes” (aka waffles) in class this Friday in conjunction with our study of the moon. If you have a round waffle iron we may borrow for the morning, we would be very grateful! We’ll enjoy our crater cakes for snack, so your child need not bring a separate snack.

Chapel Helpers Wednesday, February 29

Ash Wednesday

Our Chapel on February 22 will be a modified version of the Episcopal Ash Wednesday service and will include the imposition of ashes for those desiring. (Children who do not wish to receive ashes may cross their arms over their chest; this signals the priest to give a blessing instead.)

Mrs. Dugat will explain that the ashes are a sign that God loves us and that one day we will go to heaven to live with God. We will “put away our alleluias” and talk about Lent as a season for getting ready for Easter, just as Advent was a time of preparation for Christmas.

Parents are always welcome to join us for Chapel.

Spring Mystery Guest Schedule

Sign up now for your spring mystery guest reader gigs! Follow the link at the top of the page to the Google document. We ask each family to read about once a month. Remember that dads, grandparents, older siblings, and family friends make great readers, too! Readers arrive at our classroom ten minutes before dismissal. Bring one of your favorite books (it does not need to be related to our unit of study), or read one from our classroom collection.

Texas Memorial Museum Field Trip January 27

We’ll be taking our paleontologists on a tour of the museum’s fossil collections and would love to have as many drivers/chaperones as possible. Please email me with “Field Trip” in the subject line if you can join us (include the number of booster seats your can can accommodate).

Angel Robes Flying Home for Pressing

Check your child’s bag today for a white angel robe. This is his costume for next Friday’s pageant. Please check the robe to see if it needs to be laundered (most do not) and iron it using spray starch for a crisp finish. (You may send it to the cleaners if you prefer.) Return the robe to school by Thursday, December 15 on a hanger labeled with your child’s name.

Zach Scott Field Trip Friday, December 2

We are looking forward to Zach Scott Theatre’s production of “Holiday Heroes” Friday, December 2. This will be the first field trip for most of your children, so please note the following:

  • All children must ride in booster seats and wear St. Matthew’s t-shirts.
  • We will leave school promptly at 9 am. Please bring your child to our classroom at 8:50 am so we can form carpool groups. (Take your child to the restroom first.) If your child will be absent Friday, please email me and/or call the school office by 8:30 am. We cannot wait for late arrivals.
  • Please make arrangements with your child’s driver to install a booster seat in the appropriate car Friday morning. (Some drivers have extra booster seats. Your child’s driver will let you know if this is the case.) Do not leave a booster seat outside our classroom! Carpool assignments will be made by email Wednesday, November 30.
  • We will return to school by 11 am for snack, library, playground time, and lunch.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you to our volunteer drivers and chaperones!
