Fall Fun

During our Fall Fun Unit we have had fun dressing up like a bat and a pumpkin, hunting for our own pumpkin and decorating it, we have mixed yellow and red paint to create orange to paint fun pumpkins to hang on the ceiling of our classroom and now we have been busy getting ready for our Thanksgiving Feast.   We have been adding leaves to our tree on the bulletin board that tell of things we are thankful for, the children have given some thought to this and we add more leaves as they think of more things they are thankful for.  This unit allows us time to think about all the blessing we have and to be thankful for them.

Fire Safety

The visit from the fire fighters was quite exciting from what I hear. The children told me so many things about it: there was a number three on the truck, and the fire fighter looked very different dressed all up than he did at the beginning. The truck was VERY big! I hope they all enjoyed it the fire fighters love to visit with the children and show them what they look like when they are there to rescue someone in a fire, hopefully to ease their fears. I was glad to hear so many from our class went up close and touched him when he had all his turnout gear on!

Farm Unit

The baby farm animals were a big hit with the children! We also were busy planting seeds, they were just grass seeds but they germinate quickly and grow very fast. The clear cup allowed a view of the root structure which is quite amazing to see what goes on under the plant. We tasted a variety of vegetables when we discussed the parts of the plants we eat, roots:carrots & radishes, stems:celery, leaves:lettuce, and flowers:broccoli. We looked at what was inside a pepper, the color inside a red radish, and a closer look at a snap pea. We listened carefully when we snapped it open and saw the little peas inside and even tasted them. The children were llike little bunnies around a bowl, I could barely cut the vegetables as fast as they could eat them. Our vegetable prints turned out really cool too! We really learned a lot from each other during this unit and we look forward to moving on to our next unit!

Circle Time

Repeating the beat at circle time with shaker eggs was very fun! Everyone caught on and repeated rhythms and tempos together. Working together and waiting for turns is very hard work but this class is up for the challenge! Sound and music brought our all the budding musical artists. The instruments being played by so many hands turned into a little band. Working together and building friendships is a very important daily activity in our class!

Welcome!

Welcome to my website, I am excited to start my twelth year at St. Matthew’s.  I wanted to share some information about me with you as we start our new year together.  I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.  My husband Mark and I have been married for 28 years and we have two wonderful daughters.  Ashley is eighteen and is starting her first year at Sam Houston State Unversity.  Isabel is fourteen and an eigth grader at Canyon Vista Middle School; she is also a busy dancer in the SMSD Performing Troupe.  Sixteen years ago when we moved here from Chicago the first thing I was told to do, by my new friends, was to get my daughter on St. Matthew’s waiting list.  I followed their advice and both my children have had the privilege of spending their preschool years at such a wonderful school.  I was so impressed by the teachers at St. Matthew’s that I was inspired to go back to school for my Early Childhood Certification.  I feel truly blessed to have found such a loving and caring place to work and meet so many amazing families.  Elizabeth Neale, my assistant, makes everyday fun for the children.  She engages and involves them in activities in such a playful way.  We look forward to spending this year with you and your little angel and guiding them as they grow throughout the year.
