January Wrap Up – February News

January seemed to fly right by … We were excited to see all our Two’s again after the long Christmas break! We had fun with black and white, ice and snow, big and small, and rectangles! The T-Th class even got to watch a hail storm in progress!

As February comes into view – we have a lot to look forward to. Next week ( Wednesday Feb 8 and Thursday Feb 9) we will welcome Dad’s or other significant adults to our classroom for Donuts With Dad. What a great time to share some donuts, have that morning cup of coffee, perhaps read a story, chat with the other Dads and enjoy seeing your child in their classrooms! We start at 9:00 on both days and end at 9:30. We can’t wait…

This month we’ll be celebrating Valentines Day with a focus on family members, friends and people we love. Our colors are red and pink and our shape of the month is the heart.

We will be celebrating “RED DAY” on Tuesday Feb 14 and Wednesday Feb 15. Please dress your child in red and it’s fun to send a red snack too. Although we stick to our regular routine instead of a party in the Two’s class – you may send Valentines cards/treats, etc. for your child to give to their classmates. They will put their Valentines in bags they decorate in class. you do not need to put their classmate’s names on any cards, etc. just write YOUR CHILD’S NAME in the “from” space and it will be easier to distribute them. Being Two, they often want one of whatever they bring for themselves as well – so you might want to include an extra.

Our wonderful Parent Council representatives will be keeping you informed about our class projects for Lone Star La Noche. This year’s event is on Friday March 2.

We are looking forward to discovering and learning through play with your children this month!

Thankful!

There is so much to be thankful for as we begin another month with the Twos! Gorgeous weather for playing outside, happy children who love coming to school, interacting with awesome parents, the anticipation of holiday celebrations in the air, and most of all – watching the children become more confident and assured as they go about class routines and seeing them start to socialize with each other more!

Our focus this month is on fall colors, the triangle shape, fall leaves, and Thanksgiving! We’ll continue to work on following routines, using kind words and actions with our friends, taking turns and most of all having fun and learning by doing all these things! Our day is a balance of active and quiet activities- outdoor play that promotes their gross motor skills, art that lets them express themselves while they are building fine motor skills, and sensory play ( such as play dough and a variety of materials in the sensory table) which promotes math skills as well as builds vocabulary as they play and talk about what they are doing.

Looking forward to a great month ahead!

Off to a Great Start!

Both of our classes are off to a great start! The children in both classes are starting to feel more comfortable in their classroom and are happy and eager to take on the adventure of their first preschool experience! Yes, there have been a few tears but overall everyone is doing so well! We’re enjoying getting to know each one of them!

Our themes for September are circles, the color red, apples, and the sense of taste. The children have enjoyed creating various art projects and each one is offered as a way for them to express themselves as well as reinforce a theme and/or a fine motor or cognitive skill. They tasted three different colors of apples last week and this week they will be making prints with apples.

The children have enjoyed playing on the “big playground” where there are opportunities for climbing, running, digging, exploring the playscape, and other activities that develop their gross motor skills. In addition they love playing on the deck where they ride trikes, cars, and play with balls.

We will continue to work on keeping everyone happy, safe, and content as they become familiar with our routines and with their teachers and classmates! I know many of you wish you could observe your child unawares in their classroom environment – hopefully the photos posted on site will help you do just that!
